Best Beaches in Rhodes Island, Greece

Rhodes Island is the largest of the Dodecanese islands of Greece and it was once capital of the island group. Administratively the island forms a separate municipality within the Rhodes regional unit.

Earlier Rhodes was famous for the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and Medieval Old Town of the City which is a World Heritage Site. Now, Rhodes adorning its natural beauties like beaches for tourists.

Faliraki Beach

Faliraki beach is stretched to about 5 km of sand. Beside the magnificent Faliraki beach there are other attractions like the largest water park in Greece,a state-of-the-art bowling park, a history park, and a fun-park for families and younger children. You can find Chinese, Mexican, Italian and British cuisines in nearby restaurants. This beach is also known as resort town of Rhodes.

Lindos Beach

Lindos beach is awesome, it has fine white sand and gets lot of sun. You will get umbrellas on rent. The water is clear and environment is perfect, waves are not that high. You will get plenty foods to drinks, service providers are awesome. The only drawback is it is crowded in most of the days. So, if you are okay with many people around you while lying on the beach that Lindos will not disappoint you.

Kolymbia Beach

The Kolymbia resort in Kolymbia offers a a tranquil environment. If you wan to escape from disturbances Kolymbia resort can be your option. Nearby the beach, Nightlife starts around the restaurants and bars that line Eucalyptus Alley. Many tourists come to enjoy the nightlife in bars. Kolymbia beach is horseshaped, the sand and shingle beach stretches for over 1 km. The shallow waters are perfect for children to enjoy their vacations.

Afandou Beach

Afandou is situated on the east coast of Rhodes. This greek village has a population over 7000 and the village has a central location in Rhodes Island. Afandou mainly attracts families and couples who like to relax during the day. It’s one of the biggest traditional villages in Rhodes. Here you’ll find numerous bars, cafes, taverns restaurants and clubs to enjoy nightlife. The local cuisine has always been one of the strong points of hospitality and culture and foodie like me always love to explore such places.

Tsambika Beach

Tsambika beach is the destination for bikini beauties and one of the most beautiful beaches of the east coast of Rhodes, and still unspoiled. This is usually less crowded compared to other beaches. On Tsambika beach, you can hire clothing for water sports, beach showers, sun loungers and umbrellas. One more reason for attracting women to this beach is there is a white chapel on the steep 240m high rock which can be reached by a steep stairway. This chapel, the “Kyra Panagia Tsambika” (Tsambika Monastery) is a pilgrimage destination for women having difficulties in conceiving.

Kallithea Beach

Kallithea Beach offers a magnificent view with hills of Sithonia on the side. For party lovers Kallithea offers nightlife with variety of clubs, bars and a wide range of restaurants and tavernas. You will love the activities going here in the night.

Kiotari Beach

Kiotari is offers different types of water sports. This beach has large, luxury hotels, well-run restaurants and tavernas, and a shopping center with more or less anything you need. This also not a perfect destination for those who want some calm and quiet.

Gennadi Beach

In Gennadi you will find small pebbles with sand. The water is crystal clear. Atmosphere around the beach is good. People come here to enjoy in bars, restaurants and in DJ parties. Like any other Rhodes beach, here also you will find local cuisines in tavernas.

Charaki Beach

Charaki Beach is about 20 km from Lindos, located on the east coast of the island. This is actually a small and quiet fishermen village with superb pebbly beach. If you are searching for a perfect tavernas to taste some local fish, this is the best place. The pebbly bay is small but not overcrowded which makes ideal place for families wishing to spend a relaxed holiday.

Pefki Beach

Pefki Beach is well connected from the Rhode town. You either hire a taxi or take a public bus which comes in every half hour. The soft sand of Pefki can attract any tourists. The drawback of this beach is it is narrow. You will find variety of seafood in the tavernas.

Final Thoughts

There are many beaches in the Rhodes, it is literally impossible to mark the best among them. All the beaches have something beautiful to offer. I have listed only few beaches, in actual the list can be unending.

Tavernas are something you will not want to miss when you visit beaches in Rhodes. They offer local cuisines and seafood at reasonable price.
